The packaging needed to signal that the grain came from a real farm and was handled properly.
Staples are a category where everyone claims the same things: pure, natural, from the farm. The words are worthless, so the design has to carry the claim.
A warm ochre pack with a hand-drawn farmer-and-oxen illustration, a sun-and-field roundel, and very little else. The illustration says 'farm' faster than any photograph, and it prints cleanly on cheap film.
The back panel is deliberately plain and complete — weight, contents, warnings — because on a staple, thoroughness is what reads as honest.
